Dropbox: The hidden option to upload files using the Windows 8 app

Win 8 Dropbox app

Many people who waited a long time for Dropbox to release a modern Windows 8 app, finally got their hands in the first official version, but only to find out that they can do just some basic navigation and editing, and essential features like, for example, uploading files (documents, photos, videos, etc.) to your account are missing.

What you may not know is that there is a “hidden” way that allows you to upload files to the cloud storage service; it’s not conventional, but it is a tip that will benefit Windows 8 and Windows RT users alike until the company, hopefully, comes up with an update that adds the feature.

The process is straightforward, because there is not a direct way to upload files by drag-&-drop or just dropping files into a folder, you can however save a document directly to the Dropbox by simply using the “Save As” command from the Windows 8 app.

Note: The catch though, is that it only works if the app you are using supports the “Save As” option and you can only save one item at a time.

For this demo I used the Photoroom app for Windows 8 to give the option a try and it worked. After the  document was uploaded to Dropbox a toast notification popped up informing that the file was successfully saved.
