Early today the Microsoft Research team revealed its latest project, IllumiRoom at CES 2013 in Las Vegas during Samsung’s press conference.
IllumiRoom is an awesome poof-of-concept that essentially expands the TV experience to the walls of the living room. As you can see in the video above, Microsoft shows a Xbox 360 console with a Kinect attached to it, and the concept is to scan the surrounding environment, measure it in real-time and project images across room and around the TV set for a more immersive gaming experience.
The effects in the video are rendered in real time and are captured live — not special effects added in post processing.
I am sure that I am not the only one who wants to use this interesting concept, but no word yet when IllumiRoom will be available. In the meantime, enjoy the video to get a preview of what Microsoft has in store for us in the near future.
