Xbox One will not play Xbox 360 or arcade games

Xbox One console, sensor and controller

This is confirmed by Microsoft itself, Xbox One will not play Xbox 360 games or Xbox Live arcade games transfers. In other words, if you want to keep playing your current game library don’t put away your 360 just yet.

Although this is a sad news for many, there is a valid reason, Xbox One was designed using an x86 architecture and the Xbox 360 packs a now old PowerPC (IBM) architecture, and there is not backward compatibility between the two chips.

“We designed Xbox One to play an entirely new generation of games—games that are architected to take full advantage of state-of-the-art processors and the infinite power of the cloud.” — The software giant noted.

Microsoft also stated that they will continue selling and supporting Xbox 360 consoles and games for years to come for all gamers who are planning to keep enjoying previous generation games.

Do you think that this will affect Xbox One sales? Does it bother you to keep around another console just to play an older game? Let me know what are your thoughts on this topic in the comments below. Thanks!
