As we’re getting closer to the release of Windows 8.1, Microsoft seems to be working on a number of new things at once, such as Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2. But a new report from Paul Thurrott also indicate that the software giant is also building a Surface Pro docking station and it seems that it will be released the same day Surface Pro 2 releases. The news follows the recent rumor that the company is also creating a new keyboard accessory with battery pack to expand the life of the tablet.
The Surface Docking Station will only be a Pro accessory, it will support the current Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2, but not the RT or the Surface 2 successor.
Docking station specs:
- 1 USB 3.0 on the side
- 3 USB 2.0 on the back
- 1 Gbps Ethernet port
- 1 Mini DisplayPort for video-out
- 1 Mic and headphone or speaker port
The dock design is heavy and bulky, the tablet will slide in at an angle and it’ll also feature a side arm to hold the device in place.
Pricing is yet to be announced and there isn’t an official availability day, but the word on the street says it will ship alongside the release of Pro 2.
