Disappointing news for Xbox One gamers, Mark Rubin, executive producer at CoD developer Infinity Ward, has confirmed that “Call of Duty: Ghosts” on Xbox One will run natively at 720p, upscaled to 1080p, and PS4 will natively run the game at 1080p full-HD. This is similar to what they do with the current generation (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) where Microsoft and Sony use an upscale chip to fill up the screen with every game.
This news is making me skeptical, because we heard and read in the past about Xbox One and PS4 being almost identical on performance. And the same exact game in PlayStation 4 runs on 1080p and on 720p on Xbox One, which is significant difference in resolution. Now I’m thinking that they’re not so identical.
So… What’s going on? According to Mark Rubin, the reason is that Xbox One can’t run the Call of Duty: Ghosts at 60fps and the game company wants both consoles to hit that 60 frames per second sweet spot.
Here is the statement from Rubin at TwitLonger:
“Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven’t had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we’re 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we’re native 1080p on PS4. We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both. Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction. Can’t wait for next week’s launch.”
Now the big question is if this is a development issue that for some reason the game cannot hit the 60fps or if Xbox One has some hardware limitations that causes it not being capable of putting up with the game.
Furthermore, recently has also been confirmed that Battlefield 4 will also run at 720p on Xbox One and at 900p on the PS4. There is no much difference in resolution here, but yet we have there another good game with better resolution in the competition’s console.
