Following “Blue” success, Microsoft is already gearing up for the next wave of Windows updates and we are learning today that the software giant has codenamed the project: “Threshold”. According to Microsoft watcher, Mary Jo Foley, the company plans to release Threshold on all three platforms (Windows, Windows Phone, and Xbox One) on Spring 2015.
The new information was confirmed by reliable unnamed sources familiar to the project who mentioned that Microsoft Executive Vice President Terry Myerson has recently noted the name “Threshold” as the codename on an email to the engineering group at Microsoft.
If the company moves forward Windows, Windows Phone, and Xbox One operating systems will be on track to share a more unified programming ecosystem.
While we still don’t know what Microsoft will be including on the Threshold update and if in fact this update is the “Blue” successor, we know that this release won’t completely unify all three operating systems bringing a single version of Windows or even merge between Windows RT and Windows Phone OS.

Furthermore, Mary Jo Foley also says that a new update for Windows 8.1 is coming in Spring 2014 and it’s simply called “Update 1”, which will also bring Windows Phone 8.1 (codenamed “Blue”).
Finally, for those wondering, the codename “Threshold” comes from the franchise Xbox game, Halo, which was originally released in 2001.
