Microsoft pushes Windows 8.1 Update 1 release to April

Windows 8.1 Update 1 taskbar with Metro-style apps

It seems we’ll have to wait a bit longer to install Windows 8.1 Update 1 in our PCs as new rumor suggests that Microsoft will be releasing the update in April, instead of March how it’s been rumored in the past. According to a new report from Mary Jo Foley from ZDNet, unnamed sources familiar to the project told her that Microsoft still working on the free “Update1” and it will be ready on April 8th. This new release date, no accident, coincide with April’s Patch Tuesday batch of updates for the operating system. Thus far it rumored that Microsoft will roll out Windows 8.1 Update 1 through Windows Update and not from the Windows Store as it happened with Windows 8.1.

Although, this is a minor update for Windows 8.1, Microsoft is adding a few significant changes focusing on making the operating system better suited for traditional PCs using the keyboard and mouse. For example, the company is adding a way to pin Windows 8-style (Metro) apps to the taskbar, separate to pinning users now have a new option to show running Metro apps on the taskbar too. Also you can expect to minimize and close modern apps more easily with the mouse, there is a new context menu for live tiles to get access to different options, and now there it’s super easy to shutdown Windows 8.1 with the new Power Options located in the Start screen.
