Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9860 ready for download

Only nineteen days after the first release, Microsoft today, October 21, 2014, is rolling out a new Windows 10 Technical Preview build — the first update –. This time is the build 9860 and everyone registered as a Windows Insider can download and install the new bits right now.

Getting the new update is pretty straightforward, for those already testing the Technical Preview build 9841 make sure you’re signed-in as an administrator that is linked to the Windows Insider Program.

Then simply go to PC settings > Update and Recovery > Preview Builds, click Check Now and the build 9860 for Windows 10 should start downloading. Finally click or tap Install Now to complete the installation. The download ranges between 2GB and 2.74GB depending if you’re download the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the operating system. Once the installation begins, the PC will begin the installation and the system will reboot.

Among the new changes users can expect the following features: Notification Center arrives to the desktop, but Microsoft is actually calling it “Action Center”, a new place where you can see and follow-up on all notifications. Though, the feature isn’t fully enabled in this build, Microsoft notes.

In Windows 10 build 9860, the software giant is improving multiple monitor setup and now you can use the Windows 8 Key + SHIFT + Arrow to move active apps to another monitor.

New animations switching desktops, now thanks to user feedback there is a new animation effect that makes it clear that you’re switching from one desktop to another.

Another piece of information worth pointing out is that this new build also allows users to change how fast they get a new build. For example, for the Update and Recovery section in PC settings, you can choose to get new updates Slow or Fast. Fast, meaning more bugs…

If you’re a new to Windows 10 Technical Preview, be sure to register as a Windows Insider to download the latest ISO file to install the operating system.
