When Microsoft released the first preview of Windows 10 for phones, the build only supported a limited list of handsets. Although, most of Windows Phone users weren’t happy about the news, Microsoft made the choice as a compromise to get a build out to the public as soon as possible.
However, the reason of the limited support of phones was caused by the restrictions on system partition sizes on handsets set by manufacturers, which didn’t permit Microsoft to perform an in-place upgrade. To overcome this issue, the company has been working on a new feature called “partition stitching” that allows Windows 10 to resize the system partition dynamically, opening the door to upgrade more phones.
While the company still cannot set a specific release date, the next build of Windows 10 for phones will support a wider variety of Lumia phones:

The list above shows the intended Lumia phones support for the next build, but Microsoft still testing the validation of each device, which indicates that the list could change depending on problems that may arise at the time of the release.
Update, April 8, 2015: Microsoft announces that it will release a new preview of Windows 10 for phones on Friday, April 10, but the Lumia Icon and Lumia 930 won’t be supported
