Microsoft ‘Phone Companion’ app will connect any phone to any Windows 10 device

Microsoft will make easier for users to connect Windows 10 devices with any smartphone with the Phone Companion app.

Windows 10 Phone Companion app

On a new strategy from Microsoft to bring its apps and services to as many smartphones as possible, the company is gearing up to release the “Phone Companion” app to connect Windows 10 PCs to whatever phone you use. The software maker is hoping to lure users to take their Windows 10 experience everywhere on any phone, in particular with the iPhone and Android handsets.

The new phone companion app works as a central location to help users to download various apps, such as OneDrive, Skype, Outlook, Office, and Xbox Music, and Cortana to either an Android phone, iPhone, or Windows Phone.

Microsoft seems to be using the new Phone Companion as new way to promote its apps and services already available across platforms, and it’s aimed to new customers buying a new PC or upgrading to Windows 10, who aren’t aware of the extra features they can take advantage, even though they don’t necessary use a Windows Phone.

A version of this new companion app will arrive “in a few weeks” for those Windows Insiders running the latest preview of Windows 10.

This is a strategy that could actually work as Microsoft still planning to offer Windows 10 as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users later this summer, as such we’re expecting millions of PCs running Windows 10 in short period of time.
