Microsoft recently halt the release of new public previews and ISO files for Windows 10, but since then the company kept on rolling out new updates as part of the new Windows as a Service model to continue the development of its operating system. Today, the software giant is issuing another update for Windows 10, which is described as KB3074679.
KB3074679 is cumulative security update that resolves the various vulnerabilities in Windows 10.
- The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted document or visits an untrusted webpage that contains embedded OpenType fonts. To learn more about the vulnerability, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS15-078.
- The vulnerability impacts Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer. To learn more about the vulnerability, see Microsoft security advisory 2755801 and Adobe Security bulletin APSB15-18.
- The vulnerability could allow elevation of privilege if the Windows Installer service incorrectly runs custom action scripts
According to the company, KB3074679 also includes non-security related changes to enhance the functionality of the operating system through new features and improvements.
The Windows 10 update is available immediately, it’ll download and install automatically, but you can always do this process manually by opening Settings, and navigating to Update & security, and clicking Check for updates on Windows Update.
Microsoft is not planning to release a release-to-manufacturing version of Windows 10, as the operating system actually will never be done. However, Windows 10 build 10240 can be considered RTM, because it’s the version is shipping to manufacturers and it’s the version everyone will receive on July 29th.
