When Microsoft opened up the Windows 10 for Xbox One Preview program last September 11, only sent a handful of optional invites to members who have been fully engaged on the program for a long time.
Now, the company is ready to expand, and this weekend “more people will receive preview access to the new Xbox One experience”. In addition, the software maker says that is pushing out a new update for the Xbox Beta app on Windows 10, and reveals that Cortana for Xbox will be available next year.
How can you get in line to receive an invite? If you have previously enrolled in the Xbox One Preview Program, then you’re in the waiting list. If the company selects you, an invite will soon be waiting for you on your Xbox One. The invite to participate in this program is optional, as the build for the console is in the early stages and there a number of things that don’t work.
Cortana on Xbox One
While we know that Windows 10 for Xbox One will roll out sometime in November, the company is now also confirming that it’s working to bring Cortana to the Xbox One, but the experience won’t officially launch until 2016. However, members of the new experience preview will get an early version of Cortana on their consoles “later this year”.
Xbox Beta app for Windows 10
Recently, the company also announced that is also creating a preview program for the Xbox app, and today the app is getting an update bringing four new features:
In the new update gamers will be able to read and reply messages directly from the notification. Party text chat was first introduced in the latest build of the New Xbox One Experience Preview, and now it’s coming to the Xbox Beta app.
Other improvements include real-time notifications when someone adds you as a friend or likes, shares, or comments on your content. You will see in the top-right corner of your activity feed a “share” icon. “Click on the icon to display your recent shareable activity, such as achievements earned, game clips recorded and screenshots taken”.
Those interested can download the Xbox Beta app for Windows 10 from the Store to enroll (the beta app can run alongside the regular app).
There’re a lot things going on this weekend around Xbox One. If you have been looking to get into the new experience preview, this could be your weekend, but remember that you won’t get to play with Cortana until later this year – and officially in 2016.
