The Start menu has been through a number of transformations over the years. On Windows 10, Microsoft introduced yet another design that combined a list recently added and most used apps and a Live Tiles section on the right.
Then the Anniversary Update came along adding a few changes that merged the most used and recently added apps and the all apps list into a single scrollable list. This new change also removed the “All Apps” button and pushed the power options to a new rail on the left.
And Microsoft isn’t stopping there, as additional changes to align the Start menu design with the Start screen (the menu you see in tablet mode) are being added. Now the operating system incorporates an option to let you hide the app list in the Start menu.
In this guide, you’ll learn the steps to show or hide the app list in the Windows 10 Start menu.
How to the hide app list on the Start menu
Click on Personalization.
Click on Start.
Turn the Hide app list in Start menu toggle switch on.
When you turn on the option, opening the Start menu will only display the “Pinned tiles” section, but you’ll notice two new buttons on the top-left corner that let you switch between the “Pinned tiles” and “All apps”, just like in tablet mode.
Additionally, you’ll also see a badge notification every time there is a newly installed app that you haven’t open.
In case you want to see the all apps list again, follow the same steps, but on step 4 turn off the option.
If you don’t see the “Hide app list in Start menu” option is because you’re probably not running the Windows 10 Creators Update. If you’re an Insider, you can get this option starting build 14942 and later.
