A recovery image is a package containing the operating system (in this case Windows 10), in addition to devices drivers and applications specific to the Surface Studio desktop to go back to the default factory settings.

Once you download the image, you can copy the files to a USB flash drive, and then you can reset your Surface Studio offline.

  3. The link to download the recovery image for your Surface Studio will appear, click Download to get the image. It’s important that you don’t save it directly into a USB flash drive, you’ll need to save it to another device.

  4. On “Step 3”, the support page will provide all the instructions you need to follow to create a Recovery Drive. The process involves connecting a USB flash drive, formatting it using FAT32, and copy all the unzip files into the drive.

Once you have completed the process, you can use the Recovery Drive with the recovery image files to reset your Surface Studio to the default factory settings to fix any issues or to refresh your device if you’re ready to give it away or sell it.
