Windows 10 build 16184 releases with new features

Latest test preview of Windows 10 introduces My People feature, fixes a number of bugs, and includes some known issues — Here's what you need to know.

Microsoft is now rolling out Windows 10 build 16184 for testers with PCs enrolled in the Fast ring of the Windows Insider Program. This new release is part of the Windows 10 Redstone 3 update (version 1709) due in September, and it delivers new improvements and features over the previous build.

Windows 10 build 16184, according to the company, introduces My People, which is a new feature to make easier to connect and share files with people close to your circle.

In addition, this flight also includes a number of fixes and known issues that you should be aware before installing it.

What’s new on Windows 10 build 16184

While this was a feature previously planned for the Creators Update, in this new release, Windows 10 finally delivers My People, a new feature that makes communication with those people close to you a lot easier by allowing you to quickly and easily share photos and files, chat using text or video, and more.

This first preview includes the ability to pin people to the taskbar (current limited to three people), view multiple communication apps together, and choose the app you want to use to chat, which My People will remember the next time you start a conversation.

What’s fixed on build 16184

Alongside this new feature, Windows 10 build 16184 addresses an issue where users are unable to turn on “night light”.

The Settings app no longer shows a preview of the current theme you’re using in the Start settings page.

Microsoft is also fixing problems with drivers that have “encoding Audio Processing Object” feature; this is commonly known as “Dolby Digital Live” or “DTS Connect”.

This flight also addresses some issues that caused the Start menu and certain apps to crash.

What’s broken on build 16184

As for known issues, Windows 10 build 16184, a small number of users will continue to see the “Some updates were cancelled. We’ll keep trying in case new updates become available” error message.

Surface 3 devices will fail to update to new builds if a SD memory card is inserted. Navigating to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update may crash the Settings app. The “Save” dialog appears to be broken in several desktop (Win32) apps. Localized apps on localized x64 Windows 10 Insider Preview builds will not work, and more.

Along with the update for PCs, as part of the Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update, build 15208 is also now rolling out to phones in the Fast ring. However, this new flight doesn’t introduces new features, only a few fixes and several known issues.

Windows 10 build 16184 for PC is available immediately through the Fast ring. It’ll download and install automatically on your device, but you can always force the update from Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and clicking the Check for updates button.
