Microsoft says upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39.99 if you’re running Windows 7, Vista or XP

Windows 8 laptop

Good news for users who are planning to upgrade to Windows 8 as soon as it becomes available! Microsoft has announced today that they will be offering a promotion in their website (Windows.com) to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $39.99 (download only), and an extra $15 plus shipping if you prefer to purchase a backup DVD. In stores the price will be slightly higher ($69.99). Also it will include the option to add Windows Media Center for free with the “add features” option. Operating systems that qualify in this offer are: Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, and the duration of the promotion is limited, it will be from the day that Windows 8 becomes available until January 31st, 2013.

This offer, no surprise, will end the same day as the $14.99 Windows upgrade deal, but the promotion covers all users, and not just those who buy a new Windows PC before Windows 8 becomes available. The software giant also noted that the offer will be available in 131 markets around the world, and any additional details will be unveiled by the time of the big release.
