Last Friday the buzz on the internet was about André Weingarten, a.k.a @Moonlightswami, a New York student who by mistake Target sent his Xbox One 14 days ahead of the November 22nd launch.
As soon he started posting pictures and comments on Twitter and a video unboxing the Xbox One in YouTube. Twitter temporarily suspended his account due to so much unusual activity. Microsoft also noticed and filled up a takedown claim on the YouTube video on copyright infringements and soon after banned Weingarten’s Xbox One console from the Xbox Live online gaming service.
But it wasn’t all bad, later on Saturday, André got a call from Major Nelson, Xbox Live’s director at Microsoft, who explained what happened and assured him the console will once again connect online just a little before November 22nd. Moreover Microsoft also dismissed the copyright infringement on the Xbox One unboxing YouTube video, which is the video I’m sharing with you today (above). And the company even invited André Weingarten (@Moonlightswami) to the Xbox One launch event, all expenses covered!
Here is Major Nelson’s official statement:
Due to a retail partner’s system issue, a very small number of Xbox One consoles were shipped to consumers before the 11/22 street date. We’re pleased to see the initial response to Xbox One has been so positive, but given we are still putting the finishing touches on our games, UI and online services, as well as confidential partner and media agreements, these consoles units will be restricted from connecting to Xbox Live until closer to our launch date.
André wasn’t the only one who Target sent an Xbox One early, apparently there are about another 150 people who got their consoles by mistake too. Here is the video from YouTube user scotth0531, whose console also got banned by Microsoft during his set up video.
