Phones are more important than computers, in the sense that most of us only have one of them, and it will be tragic if you brick your phone while testing the new Windows 10 Technical Preview. Even though, the new version of Windows 10 for phones has been more heavily tested than the desktop version, it’s a work in progress and there are risks involved, as such bugs and other problems are expected.
Aside from the bugs and other problems that might appear while testing the new software, Microsoft also warns that the Technical Preview is far from complete and has a bunch of known issues. Although, Microsoft has documented workarounds for many of the issues, the company has also created a new tool called the Windows Phone Recovery Tool that will help users to restore the previous image as necessary if you bricked your phone.
Now if your phone begins experiencing issues with Windows 10, you can download the Windows Phone Recovery Tool version 1.0.4.0 from the Microsoft Mobile Devices page.
The tool is a desktop application that can be installed in Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. To recover, you’ll only need to install the application, connect your Windows Phone using an USB cable, and simply follow the on-screen instructions.
It’s very important to note that using the Software Recovery Tool will delete all the content stored on your phone, including apps and games, text messages, call history, music, phone, and everything else. You’ll be doing a clean install of the previous operating system. If you’re reading this before you decided to upgrade to Windows 10 preview for phones, create a backup of your headset by going to Settings, backup.
The Windows Phone Recovery Tool works on all Nokia Lumia and Microsoft Lumia phones running Windows Phone 8 or later versions. However, Microsoft recommends that Nokia branded phones use the Lumia Software Recovery Tool.
