Microsoft recently unveiled its newest creation, the Surface 3, which is a new tablet that follows the philosophy of the Surface Pro 3, but it’s a bit smaller, thinner, lighter, and with low-powered hardware that makes the Surface 3 a non-Pro device aimed as an alternative to the powerful big brother.
However, unlike the Surface 2, the new Surface 3 is more powerful and ditches Windows RT in favor of Windows 8.1 (upgradable to Windows 10), which means that you can run all kinds of applications, modern and traditional apps.
While Microsoft opened the pre-orders the same day the new tablet was announced, it was only available through the Microsoft Store. Today, the company is not wasting any time and expanding pre-orders to two new U.S. retailers, including Amazon and Best Buy, so more people can get the new Surface 3 and all its accessories. However, at this time, you can only pre-order the Wi-Fi model, the model with 4G LTE will become available for pre-order in the following weeks.
Like in the Microsoft Store, Amazon and Best Buy are offering the device at $499 for the model featuring 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, and $599 for the 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Keep in mind that unlike the Surface Pro 3 that comes with the Surface Pen, you’ll need to buy this accessory separately, priced at $49.99. You’ll also need the Type Cover, if you want to get more out of the device, and it will cost you an extra $129.99.
