40 million Windows 8 licenses sold by Microsoft in the first month

Win 8 launch wall

Microsoft just announced that after a month of the official launch, the company has sold 40 million licenses of Windows 8. Tami Reller revealed the news at the Credit Suisse 2012 Annual Technology Conference. At a new article at the Blogging Windows, Brandon LeBlanc also mentioned that “Windows 8 is outpacing Windows 7 in terms of upgrades.”

“The journey is just beginning, but I am pleased to announce today that we have sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses so far”. Tami who just been appointed as Windows Chief Marketing and Financial Officer said.

Recently words in the media suggested that the sale of Windows 8 PCs were lower than expected, however this number indicates the opposite — that Microsoft is doing just fine with sales. Part of the healthy start seems to come from Microsoft upgrade promotion and letting Windows XP users also get into the upgrade wagon. The software giant did not make mention on Windows RT license sales or from its tablet, Surface.
