Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: Tech specs, features, availability details

Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are here to make everything you do on your phone even better and faster. Here are the full tech specs, the most important features, pricing and availability details.

Apple iPhone 7 (Black, Jet Black, Silver, Gold, Rose Gold)

Apple finally unveiled the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and in spite they’re not a massive redesign, these devices come with improved hardware while retaining a beautiful design. If you’re still wondering, nope there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7. Period. However, there are two new colors: Black and Jet Black, in addition to Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold.

At the heart of the new devices there is a new A10 Fusion quad-core processor, which the company claims is 40 percent faster than the A9 chip.

iPhone 7 battery life

The new iPhones offer the longest battery life Apple has ever delivered on an iPhone. On average, the phones can last two hours longer than the iPhone 6s and one hour longer than the iPhone 6s Plus. According to Apple, the battery on the iPhone 7 can last up to 14 hours when using Wi-Fi and 12 hours on 4G. And the iPhone 7 Plus can last 15 hours on Wi-Fi and 15 hours on 4G.

Improved camera

Although the back-facing camera bump still there, the entire camera system has changed. The upgraded camera now takes sharper pictures and enhances quality on photos you take in low-light. You’ll even find a dual-camera system on the iPhone 7 Plus, which significantly improves the quality of pictures when using digital zoom.

The new handsets also include stereo speakers for the first time, and speakers are now located at the top and bottom of the handset.

Subtle cosmetic improvements

These devices retain the same look and feel of their predecessors (iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus), but one subtle and important change is that the antenna bands have been moved to the back to the edge. In addition, the company has also improved the pressure-sensitive home button to allow taptic feedback, which means that it’ll vibrate when you touch it.

iPhone 7 now water-resistant

Another noticeable feature on these phones is water-resistance. Yes, if you accidentally fall in the pool, you’ll get soaking wet, but your phone won’t die. In fact, the iPhone 7 is water-resistant with an IPX67 rating. Basically, this means that it can submerged in waters of up to one meter deep for around 30 minutes.

Goodbye headphone jack

Perhaps one of the most controversial changes is the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack in favor of the Lightning connector. Apple has also updated its EarPods to include a Lighting connector, which of course comes bundled with the device.

If you like your old earbuds, Apple will even bundle an adapter from 3.5mm headphone jack to Lighting connector. EarPods replacements are available for $29, and the adapter is priced at $9.

Then there is also the new wireless Apple AirPods powered by a W1 chip. The AirPods are really simple to connect, they feature infrared sensors to detect when you have them on your ears, and motion sensors to detect your voice to use Siri.

iPhone 7 AirPods

The AirPods offer up to 5 hours of listening, it comes with charging case, and provides a total of 24 hours battery life. The new AirPods costs $159, and they’ll be available in late October.
