This week on PUREinfoTech: Microsoft drops Windows 10 Insider Preview build 14316 to the Fast ring of update. The new release is massive and it includes a lot of new features and changes the company is planning to roll out with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update later this summer.
Windows 10 build 14316 brings new features to Cortana with improve cloud syncing, language options, and the ability to find your phone wherever it might be. The Settings app gets a hefty amount of improvements on notifications, battery, and there is a new Mobile hotspot features (which I also showed you how to enable), and users can also try the new Dark theme personalization option.
Microsoft Edge gets new features, two additional extensions, and Microsoft unveils that the new web browser will give more control to user over the Adobe Flash. This means that the browser will now automatically block Adobe Flash content that is not part of the main webpage experience to improve battery life and performance.
Bash on Ubuntu also arrives to Windows 10. This is a new feature in the operating system that allows web developers and people working on open source projects to run Linux commands natively on Windows.
The latest preview for Windows 10 also includes a few new apps, such as Connect that allows you bring Continuum for phone experience to your PC screen, the software giant ships the first preview of the new Skype Universal Windows Platform app, and the Feedback Hub and Messaging get slightly improved.
As always Microsoft also published the fixes and known issues for the Windows 10 Insider Preview build.
During the Build 2016 conference the Windows team also showed off the updated Start menu that will be included as part of the Anniversary Update. You can watch the new video I published on the Pureinfotech channels highlighting all the new changes coming in the new Start menu.
This week we also learned that Microsoft continues with its effort to launch the Surface Phone, but a new report confirms that if the company releases any “Surface Phone” branded device, it will not be released until sometime in 2017.
In addition, early this week, HP unveiled its new Spectre 13 laptop, which the company claims is the world’s thinnest laptop you can buy today. The new laptop starts at $1,170 and pre-orders begins on April 25th.
Microsoft is also planning to bring Cortana to the Lock screen on Windows 10, but what many users don’t know is that they can enable the assistant right now on the Lock screen with a simple registry key in build 14316.
Finally, as a token of appreciation for the all the Insider help during Build 2016, Microsoft made available two Xbox avatar props that anyone can download for free, including the Ninjacat T-Rex and Ninjacat Skis and Shark.
