4 Chrome extensions to get fast and free VPN access for anonymous internet access

Protect your online privacy and access geo-restricted content around the world with these four Chrome extensions offering fast and free VPN access.

Free VPN access on Chrome web browser extensions

Protecting your online privacy is one of the most difficult things to do now that we live in always connected world. Virtual private networks (VPN) are a popular solution among users to get around the privacy concern issue.

The reason is because a VPN routes your internet traffic through servers located in different countries, makes it harder for anyone, including government, hackers, and advertisers to track your every move on the web — plus through a virtual private network, you may also be able to get access to content that may be geographically restricted in your region.

Previously, we looked at the Opera web browser free and unlimited VPN solution. However, chances are that you’re a Chrome user, as it’s one of the most popular software to get access to the internet, and while Google doesn’t offer VPN built right into the web browser, you can still get unlimited and free VPN access the right extensions with the right service.

To narrow things down, in this guide, I’ll be listing four Chrome extensions that you can download and install from the Chrome Web Store that will allow you to get fast, reliable, and free VPN access in the web browser.

Note: Installing a Chrome extension is as easy as clicking the download link, and the clicking Add to Chrome button at the Chrome Web Store.

1. Hotspot Shield

Hotspot Shield offers free and unlimited web VPN proxy. The best part about this extension is that you can change the virtual location to find the fastest web surfing experience and to access geographically restricted content around the world.

2. Unlimited Free VPN – Betternet

Betternet offers free and unlimited VPN access as well. The only downside is that you can’t change the virtual location, which can be an issue when you’re trying to get access to geographically restricted content, but on the upside, you’ll be surfing the web with anonymity.

3. TunnelBear VPN

TunnelBear VPN is another great extension that allows you to get access to the internet through VPN. This is also an easy to use extension to browse the web while protecting your privacy and to get access to geographically restricted websites. In addition, you can also select the country you want to use as a proxy, including United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Japan, France, Sweden, Brazil, Mexico, Hong Kong, and many more.

TunnelBear VPN is very fast too, in fact is one of the fastest VPN extensions that has been tested in Chrome, and one of the few that actually let you access video streaming services, such as BBC iPlayer and Netflix.

The downside about TunnelBear is that you can only use 750MB of data each month for free, and you’ll need a premium account for unlimited data. However, you can get an extra 1GB of data by sending a Tweet that you’re using the VPN service.

4. Free Proxy to Unblock any sites – TouchVPN

Free Proxy to Unblock any sites is an extension from TouchVPN, and it offers one-click setup with unlimited data for free. The extension also offers the option to change the country you want to use as a proxy, including United States, France, Denmark, Sweden, United Kingdom, Singapore, Netherlands, and Germany.

While there is a countless number of VPN solutions for Chrome and on the internet, if you are ever concerned about keeping your web traffic secure or you ever have the need to get access to geographically restricted online content on United States, United Kingdom, or another country, then you should give these Chrome extensions a try.
