Windows 10 update KB4515384 (build 18362.356) releases for version 1903

Microsoft updates Windows 10 to fix high CPU usage acknowledged in the August 2019 cumulative update. Also, the company updates older versions of the OS get various fixes.

As part of the Patch Tuesday for September 2019, Microsoft is releasing update KB4515384 for devices running Windows 10 version 1903, May 2019 Update.

KB4515384 bumps the version number to build 18362.356, and according to the software giant, improves security and fix search issues that caused high processor usage on devices with Bing for Windows Search disabled.

In addition to build 18362.356, older version of Windows 10, including version 1809, 1803, 1709, 1703, 1607, and original release are also receiving new cumulative updates.

Update KB4515384 for Windows 10 version 1903

Microsoft has announced KB4515384 in the Windows support site, and it’s referred as “September 10, 2019—KB4515384 (OS Build 18362.356)” If you’re already running the Windows 10 May 2019 Update on your device, this update will address these problems:

  • Fixes a problem that causes high CPU usage from SearchUI.exe for a small number of users. (This issue only occurs on devices that have disabled searching the web using Windows Desktop Search.)
  • Provides protections against a new subclass of speculative execution side-channel vulnerabilities, known as Microarchitectural Data Sampling, for 32-Bit (x86) versions of Windows.
  • Security updates to Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Media, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Authentication, Windows Cryptography, Windows Datacenter Networking, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Wireless Networking, the Microsoft JET Database Engine, Windows Kernel, Windows Virtualization, and Windows Server.

Update September 13, 2019: Microsoft has already acknowledge that this update causing problems with the Start menu and search. Also, some reports suggests that update KB4515384 has audio problems especially when playing games. Until the company resolve these issues, it’s best not to install this cumulative update.

Update KB4512578 for Windows 10 version 1809

Microsoft has also announced KB4512578 in the Windows support site, and it’s referred as “September 10, 2019—KB4512578 (OS Build 17763.737)” If you’re already running the Windows 10 October 2019 Update on your device, this update will address these issues:

  • Provides protections against a new subclass of speculative execution side-channel vulnerabilities, known as Microarchitectural Data Sampling, for 32-Bit (x86) versions of Windows.
  • Security updates to Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Authentication, Windows Cryptography, the Microsoft JET Database Engine, Windows Kernel, Windows Virtualization, and Windows Server.

Update KB4512578 for Windows 10 version 1803

The April 2018 Update (version 1803) is getting update KB4516058, and the Windows support site referred as “September 10, 2019—KB4516058 (OS Build 17134.1006)”. If you’re already running version 1803 on your PC, this update will address these issues:

  • Provides protections against a new subclass of speculative execution side-channel vulnerabilities, known as Microarchitectural Data Sampling, for 32-Bit (x86) versions of Windows.
  • Security updates to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Media, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Authentication, Windows Cryptography, Windows Datacenter Networking, Windows Storage and Filesystems, the Microsoft JET Database Engine, Windows Kernel, Windows Virtualization, Windows Server, and Microsoft Edge.

Update for older versions of Windows 10

Even though version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) is no longer supported, organizations running the Enterprise or Education edition of Windows 10 are getting update KB4516066 to fix some issues and bumps the version number to 16299.1387.

Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Update) is no longer supported either, but organizations with devices still running this version can now download and install KB4516068, which address several problems and bumps the version number to build 15063.2045.

Also, the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, version 1697, is getting update KB4516044 to address some problems with the no longer supported operating system bumping the version number to build 14393.3204.

Finally, the original release of Windows 10 is getting update KB4516070 bumping the version number to 10240.18333 to address several problems.
