Overall, it beats MSO in file format exchange, in integration of its components, in being cross-platform (it is the *same* version on Mac, Win and Linux!), and extensibility via hundreds of extensions and templates. In my experience, particularly Writer stands out: It’s graphics handling beats Word hand-down, long documents are done without any problem, the great concept of styles (what, Word doesn’t know real page styles?) and the excellent PDF export with many options.
