Microsoft to unveil the Lumia 650, known as the ‘last Lumia’, on February 1st

Microsoft is reportedly gearing up to announced the Lumia 650 (last Lumia phone) on February, before bringing to the market the Surface Phone.

While the uncertainty of Windows mobile devices continue, Microsoft will reportedly unveil a new handset in early February. Thus far the company has introduced three phones under the Lumia umbrella – the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, which are the first flagship devices running Windows 10 Mobile, and there is also the Lumia 550, a low-end alternative handset that is priced at $139.

According to Windows Central, Microsoft plans to continue expanding its phone portfolio on February 1st, with its new Lumia 650 phone. The report also points out that the device is a “business-oriented” handset featuring a 5-inch 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon – either 210 or 212 – processor, 1GB of memory, only 8GB of internal storage, and 5-megapixel front-facing and 8-megapixel back-facing cameras.

Perhaps the most important piece of information worth noting is that the same report claims that the Lumia 650 could not be only “the last Lumia for the year”, but it could be the last Lumia handset Microsoft will ever build under the Lumia umbrella. Moving forward, the company will shift focus to bring to the market the “Surface Phone”, something that we have heard many times before.

If the information is accurate, the Lumia brand may be coming to an end for good. Back in October, the company has mentioned that it wants consistent design across devices, which could indicate that Surface Phone will align somehow with the current Surface tablet design. Furthermore, there is not yet official information confirming the use of the “Surface” brand in the future of Windows handsets. However, the company is reportedly working on a Surface Phone, which is likely to debut at one point this year.
