Although the next version of Microsoft Edge based on the Chromium engine is expected to release in January 2020, it’ll ship without several key features on Windows 10 and macOS.
According to a new report from Neowin, the new web browser won’t be available with ARM64 at launch, even though, there’s an ARM-based version already compiled for these devices. The problem holding the release appears to be a blocking bug specifically to Qualcomm chips, which the company plans to fix, but it won’t be ready on time.
Also, it’ll not be available for HoloLens or Xbox One, at least initially, because they’re not a priority.
In addition, the Chromium version of Edge available in January won’t include history or extension syncing either, as the company needs more time to work on those features.
Although there will be some missing functionalities during the initial release, Microsoft told Neowin that those aren’t important enough features, which is the reason the company is choosing to ship the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge on January 15 anyway.
