First look at the new Start menu in the Windows 10 Anniversary update (video)

This is how the Windows 10 Anniversary Update new Start menu looks like.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update new Start menu

Windows 10 Anniversary Update will bring many great changes and improvements, including a new Start menu. While Microsoft didn’t talk about its plan for the new menu, during Build 2016, the company unveiled through the Feedback Hub that it’s working to bring some interesting UI changes.

Up until now, we only have some screenshot images and a few details about the updated menu, but now thanks to Microsoft’s Jen Gentelman, we have a short animated GIF showing the new changes the company has been working on, including a hamburger button on the top-left corner and a new unified list that includes “Most used” and “All apps” list view.

As you can see in the Tweeted GIF, Microsoft is working toward aligning the design of the Start menu with the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps language design. In the image below, you can see how the new Start menu has some resembles to the Mail app on Windows 10.

Since Windows 10 first launch in 2015, we have been trying to get Microsoft to bring together the user-interface experience, and it seems we’re about to see just that with Anniversary Update and beyond.

Below I have put together a short video demonstrating the new Start menu with the new taskbar notifications badges also coming in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update:

While Microsoft is working to improve the Start menu experience, the company continues looking for feedback to see if the new changes are worth to come to Windows 10. If you like what you see, it’s a good idea to take the survey to help make it happen.

What do you think about the new Start menu? What other changes would you like to see? Tell us in the comments below.
