Microsoft recently rolled out a new firmware update for its Surface Pro 3 device, and the company is just now sharing the details about the changes included with the update.

The release notes is dated “August 2017,” so there is a good chance that your device already have the update installed, and if you’re curious, the firmware update adds support for the new Surface Pro Type Cover and Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.

What’s new with the Surface Pro 3 latest firmware update

Here’s everything included with the firmware update:

  • Surface Smart Cover Backlight – System device: 3.0.0.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface PTP Filter – HID: 1.0.173.1 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface Fingerprint Sensor Driver – Biometric device: 2.2.11.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface Pro Type Cover Integration – HID: 1.0.2.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface Type Cover Filter Device – Keyboards: 1.1.504.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.

The new September 2017 firmware update for Surface Pro 3 is available immediately. However, if you have not received the update on your Surface, then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and try to force the download manually.
