I can confirm that the Surface book works perfectly after following these methods. The same has been recommended by the Microsoft support as well as a last resort in my case. All ok now.

Recovery drive is not a full backup nor a way to reinstall Windows 10, it’s simply a drive with the essential files to boot up Windows and manually fix the problem.

Hi Mauro, Thanks for your replies. If I have 2 Surface books of same specs, can I use one of them to recover another? If so, Is it just as simple as creating a USB recovery drive on one and using on the other?

It sucks that you’re having this issue. I just tried to download the image for my Surface Pro 3 and it works perfectly, but it’s not a Surface Book. The Surface Book image is the same for all the books. It’s strange that you can’t download the image though.
Here is an alternative solution, if you can’t download the image.

Use this guide to download all the drivers for the Surface Book https://pureinfotech.com/surface-book-surface-pro-4-firmware-drivers-download/
Then do a clean install of Windows 10 manually on your device, if you can’t conect to the internet afterwards, use the drivers pack to install the Wi-Fi adater, then simply connect online and check for updates, which in theory should update everything else you need.

Remember to make a FULL BACKUP before proceeding!!!

Tried all. Still the same message. Is the image same for all the same Surface book models ? Eg: is it same for all 256GB, 8GB i7 Surface books?
