Why you should not buy Apple’s 2015 MacBook

You might be disappointed at your new MacBook 2015 model.

Gold MacBook 2015

Cosmetically speaking the new Apple 12-inch MacBook is stunningly beautiful, at only 2 pounds the device is only 13.1mm thick with a great high-resolution display, and one port that rules all your peripherals, even for charging.

Now, during the Apple’s March press event, the company went over only the good things about the new MacBook, but it didn’t disclose fully all the details on what customers might consider a deal-breaker.

Low-resolution FaceTime camera

While all Mac computers include a 720p FaceTime HD camera, the new MacBook only ships a 480p standard resolution camera. To put this in perspective, the iPhone 4 front-facing camera had the same low-resolution camera. The iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 feature a 720p FaceTime HD camera.

So, say goodbye to crystal-clear Skype calls or even FaceTime calls…

Where is the MegSafe?

Apple’s proprietary MegSafe power port is no longer found in the MacBook, instead the company is only shipping the device with a single USB-C port to output video and data transfer. So, now we can expect more MacBooks drop to the ground. (Buy the extended warranty.)

You will need a dongle

With only a single USB-C port available in the new laptop, you’ll be forced to purchase an $79 adapter, if you want to charge your MacBook, output video to an external monitor, and copy files to an external hard drive simultaneously. (I don’t have any problems doing all this at the same time in my Surface Pro 3, just sayin’…)

No more glowing Apple logo

If you loved how the Apple logo glowed in the back of the display, well now Apple has decided to remove the light on the new MacBook logo. So, if you’re really an Apple fan, you’ll miss this feature.

It’s not a workhorse

The new MacBook ships with an Intel Core M processor, which is not a very powerful chip. This new processor is part laptop and part tablet. The Intel Core M processor is what makes the new MacBook be lighter, thinner, and fanless, but these feature compromises performance tremendously. Even more when considering that the new MacBook has to drive a high-resolution display. As such don’t expect the MacBook to be a do-it-all device.

Now, if you only need to work with the web browser and a few applications that doesn’t involve video editing or the use of Photoshop, and your are constantly traveling, the new MacBook may just be what you need. However, if you’re looking for some serious horsepower and portability, you shouldn’t probably buy a MacBook, instead you may want to consider the Dell XPS 13 or Surface Pro 3, among others.

Keep in mind that the basic model starts at $1299 with a 1.1GHz dual-core Intel Core M, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of Solid-State Drive.
