Windows 10 build 14931

Windows 10 build 14931 brings updated apps and minor improvements

New test update for Windows 10 (build 14931) rolls out with minor improvements and updated apps, including SMS and MMS messages using Skype.

Microsoft releases Windows 10 build 14931 as part of the Redstone 2 update due in early 2017. The new update is only available for PCs enrolled in the Fast (and Slow) ring, and due to issues the company won’t be releasing a new build for Windows 10 Mobile.

According to Microsoft, Windows 10 build 14931 doesn’t introduce any new features or visual change. However, this flight brings native support for USB Audio 2.0 devices with an “inbox class driver”. This is in the early stages, so not all the features are included.

Build 14931 also updates for three built in apps, including the Feedback Hub app which now brings a dark mode option and a few other minor changes in the settings page.

In the new version of Maps, you can now check traffic to your home or work locations by using the new Traffic icon in the app bar. In addition, Maps now supports a dark theme, and you can even change your map to a dark theme.

Known issues for Windows 10 build 14931

Alongside the new improvements, Microsoft is also listing a few minor known issues for build 14931, including a problem with Narrator and Groove Music not working correctly together.

Microsoft has published the complete list of fixes and known issue for build 14931 at the Windows Blog.

Windows 10 build 14931 for PC is available immediately through the Fast (and Slow) ring. The new preview will download and install automatically, but you can always force the update from Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and clicking the Check for updates button.
