Microsoft is planning to introduce new changes on Windows 10 to further embrace third-party digital assistants. Starting with the September 2019 update, Windows 10 will allow third-party assistants to operate above the lock screen. This means that you will be able to interact with assistants, such as Amazon Alexa, even if the device is locked.

The new change appear with preview build 18362.10005, and it happens just after the company made the decision to break Cortana and Search into two separate features, and even though, it’s not a significant change, it shows that the software maker is committed to support other voice assistants, and Cortana will just be one of the many digital assistants supported on Windows 10.

Microsoft is working to bring the new improvements with the Windows 10 19H2 update due in September, which unlike previous releases, this new feature update will be available as a cumulative update for devices already running the May 2019 Update.
