Previously, Microsoft announced that the free offer to upgrade to Windows 10 is set to expire on July 29th, at which point users will have to pay $119 for the full version of Windows 10 Home.
Now the company is clarifying that the offer is not ending for everyone. On a new article at the Microsoft Accessibility Blog, Daniel Hubbell published a statement saying that Windows 10 will continue to free for users who use assistive technologies in their computers.
“As you may have heard, the free Windows 10 upgrade offer for customers running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 is set to end on July 29, but we want to clarify that that deadline will *not* apply to customers who use assistive technologies. We are continuing to deliver on our previously-shared vision for accessibility for Windows 10 and we are committed to ensuring that users of assistive technologies have the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 10 for free as we do so.”
However, the company still has to share more details on how users using assistive technologies in their computers will be able to take advantage of the free offer after July 29th, and what steps will be put in place to make sure that non-qualifying users don’t abuse the system.
