You can finally write your emails with a stylus with the default Mail app for Windows 10. If you like, of course. Microsoft is currently testing an upcoming update for its Mail app that includes Windows Ink support.
Although pen support on Windows has been around for many years, it’s not until the release of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update that we see Microsoft investing resources to make annotation and drawing with pen a lot better.
Since the Anniversary Update, Windows 10 received a number of updates to improve Windows Ink, and now, Microsoft is bringing pen support to the Mail app (via The Verge).
The update (16005.10228.20091.0) is available for participants of the Windows Insider Program running the latest preview of the Redstone 5 update, which is expected to rollout sometime in October.
Once the new Mail app arrives on your device, you’ll notice a new draw tab in the top menu of the email composer. (While the feature is targeted to devices with touch-enabled devices, it appears that it’ll be available on any device, which means that you can also use your mouse to draw a message.)
After selecting one of the pen options, you can use natural handwriting to compose an entire email. Just like in other apps, you get a number of pen options and colors to write emails.
The update for the Mail app comes in a good time, considering that we may soon start to see devices with dual-screen to take notes very soon, and Windows Ink support on apps will be key.
