That&#039;s a good analogy, but the way I understand it, you&#039;ll be able to go back to Windows 8/7 without any licensing issues. Technically, your Windows 8 or 7 product key doesn&#039;t get literally converted to a Windows 10 product key. During the upgrade, Windows 10 will send your product key to the cloud and associate it with your Microsoft Account, then Microsoft simply lets you use Windows 10 with a Windows 8 or 7 key.
