Windows 10 Redstone 2 updates

Redstone 2, the next big update for Windows 10, is getting two new features, including a night mode option called “Blue light” and a feature called “People Bar”.

Although we’re still in the early development days of Windows 10 Redstone 2, Microsoft has already released a few previews, but without noticeable changes. This is because the company is focusing on code restructuring to get the operating system ready to start adding new features.

However, it seems that we’ll soon begin to see new visual changes. According to Windows Central sources, Microsoft is currently working in two new features: “Blue light” and “People Bar”.

Blue light

Similar to Apple’s Night Shift, Android’s Night mode on Nougat, and the f.lux app, Microsoft is working on a night mode feature for the Windows 10 Redstone 2 update. Blue light is said to be a feature that adjusts your display tone and color depending on the time of day or lighting environment to help you reduce eye strain and improve your quality sleep at night.

It’s also called “Blue light” for a reason. It’s because the feature reduces the amount of blue your display emits that affect your sleep patterns.

Relating to the images posted on Twitter, users will be able to enable Blue light by using a Quick Action button on Action Center.

People Bar

People Bar is also a new feature that displays profile images as circular icons of recent active contacts on the system tray in the taskbar. It appears that this feature will integrate with Skype, GroupMe, and Office applications, which will give users the ability to quickly message people by clicking the icon.

Apparently, Microsoft has thought of People Bar since the first release of Windows 10, but it’s been one of those features that had to be pushed back. However, it now may be ready for a landing on Redstone 2.

Keep in mind that while we’re still in the early days of development, everything can change in the future. Although internally, Microsoft calls these features “Blue light” and “People Bar”, naming can always change or the company can choose not to include them at all.
