  • You can now install Windows 11 on Surface Duo.
  • The process is purely experimental and nothing works well.
  • The instructions are in early preview and you may void the Duo’s warranty.

It’s now possible to install Windows 11 on your Surface Duo device, but not officially. After many months of experimentation, student engineers, Gustave Monce and Simone Franco have put together a guide on how anyone can install Windows 11 alongside Android on the original Surface Duo.

According to the instructions, you will be installing the ARM version of Windows 11 in a dual-boot system with Android. The new installation will be shared with the current Android setup, which means that you will need the 128GB version of the phone.

As part of the process, you will have to unlock the bootloader, repartition the internal storage, configure the custom EUFI firmware, perform a clean install of Windows 11, and enable the system boot manager to access the setup.

Although installing Windows 11 on the dual-screen device is impossible, the system isn’t usable since most of the features (such as cameras, networking, and touch controls) do not work. However, it’s interesting to see that someone has been able to load Windows on an Android device.

Since the system is not usable and the steps are in early preview, this project is obviously purely for testing only. It’s not recommended to modify the installation unless you don’t mind possibly bricking the device and voiding the warranty.
