Microsoft pushes third set of Windows 8.1 Preview updates

Windows 8.1 update

On Tuesday July 23, Microsoft is yet again releasing three new updates for Windows 8.1 Preview. This new batch of updates only affect Windows 8.1 Preview, SkyDrive, and Internet Explorer 11 Preview, in any of the Microsoft KB articles there is a mention that the new patches include Windows 8.1 RT Preview.

The updates come just a week after the previous set that included fixes for scrolling issues, VPN connections, improvements on the SkyDrive experience, and other compatibility issues.

The new updates rolling out today include:

  • Update for Windows 8.1 Preview that enables service metadata packages to work correctly (KB2870257) — This update resolves an issue that could cause the service metadata packages of some network operators not to function. For example, the tethering feature does not work as expected.
  • Update that improves the stability of SkyDrive in Windows 8.1 Preview (KB2871052)
  • You cannot view a webpage that contains a timer in Internet Explorer 11 Preview (KB2871055) — This update resolves scenarios where IE11 does not display a web page or web page does not behave as expected.

The Windows updates are available now, but you don’t have to rush to get them. They will be applied automatically the next time you restart your PC.
