Sarcastically speaking, I love how Apple defines new products it introduces, if we look at the MacBook (2015) the company unveiled recently. The company said that is the “thinnest” MacBook ever created, which is true, but it’s not the thinnest laptop in the market. Apple just played with words in order to say “thinnest”, and the same goes when the company talks about its operating system adoption rate and many other products.
Now, we all know that the battle between a Mac and PC will be a never-ending war, just like between two rival sport teams. During the March press event, Apple announced the new MacBook, which is the thinnest and lightest device the company has ever made without any full-sized USB 3.0, DisplayPort, or power connector, and PC makers took the opportunity to show to the world that the MacBook isn’t the only thin and beautiful computer out there.
Lenovo was the first to step in and called the MacBook (2015) “so last year”, on Twitter the company Tweeted a picture showing how the Yoga 3 Pro (2014) is only 12.8mm thin, compared to the 13.1mm of the MacBook. Although, the Yoga 3 Pro is still heavier, Lenovo’s version comes with two USB ports and it features a much higher-resolution display.

The next manufacturer to step in was Dell, which quickly pointed out that the Dell XPS 13 (2015) has two million more pixels than the retina display in MacBook. However, apparently, this was the only feature Dell was able to measure against the Apple’s latest notebook, but it’s worth noticing that the Dell XPS 13 features two USB ports, mini DisplayPort, and a SD card reader, which means that you don’t have to spend more money on an adapter.

Asus also made its voice heard and the company responded with the ZenBook UX305, and made its point of having a thinner laptop. The Asus UX305 is only 12.3mm thin and crushes the MacBook on thickness, and it even comes with three USB ports, micro HDMI, and SD card reader. The Asus device is heavier than the MacBook, but the company didn’t disclose that it has a screen resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels in the 13-inch display, which is lower than the Apple’s latest MacBook.

Being the mature one, Microsoft didn’t mock Apple during its presentation, but it’s worth pointing out that the Surface Pro 3 is a much more powerful device than the new MacBook. It features a retina touch-enable display, USB 3.0, mini DisplayPort capable of driving a 4K display, and SD card slot. Furthermore, the Surface Pro 3 costs roughly the same amount of money and even cheaper if you look around.
Surprisingly, PC makers only called out features where they are better than Apple, but they ignore all the other features. We know that no matter what, Apple will sell millions of MacBooks in a short period of time, as the company is known for having many loyal customers that will buy any product the company introduces. If you’re planning to get one, just pay attention to what you’re really getting.
Also, while rivals made their case about the ports availability, Apple was the first thinking on the future, where the new reversible USB Type-C takes the center stage. However, only one port isn’t enough, and a 480p camera and Core M processor are just really low-specs.
