Microsoft pilots single-click upgrade feature in Windows Threshold

Microsoft Windows 9 (Threshold)

Microsoft is readying the first preview of Windows 9 and it’s expected to arrive at the end of September. The “Technical Preview” will be available to anyone interested on testing the newest bits. However, unlike previous releases, this release will include a new agreement that users have to accept to install follow up mandatory updates.

But what’s interesting is that it seems that Microsoft is currently testing a new feature that will allow you to upgrade builds with a single click. This will be very convenient, as we all know that switching from build-to-build requires reinstallation.

According to a new article at Neowin, the single-click upgrade feature will appear in Windows Update (but it’s separate from the traditional updates), and users will literally have to do a single click to upgrade Windows Threshold to the latest build.

Neowin also reports that this feature thus far only appears in the internal releases of the Technical Preview, which means that there is a chance it won’t be included in the final release. However, we can only assume that we’ll see this feature when the preview finally releases, as not only is a useful feature, but also it’s already integrated in the operating system natively.

The single-click upgrade doesn’t require reinstallation of the entire operating system and makes getting to the latest Windows Threshold build a lot easier than previous previews (Windows 8).

This is a step forward for Microsoft into its vision of rapid release cycle, that if it works well could help users to stay updated without much hassle. And now we’re seeing the company pushing more monthly updates to Windows, which also include new features, besides from the typical security and bug fixes.
