Xbox One February Update (version 2002): features and changes

Microsoft makes available the February Update for Xbox One to everyone with new dashboard experience, better storage management, improved games and apps organization, and much more.

Microsoft is now rolling out the Xbox One version 2002 to the public with a redesigned dashboard experience, and a bunch of features and improvements for updating games, storage, conversations, and more.

In the February Update for Xbox One, the software giant will be making available a more streamlined home experience that make the interaction feel more responsive, content will be front and center, and access to games will be faster.

Microsoft has also removed the “Twists from the top in favor of dedicated rows for Xbox Game Pass, Mixer, Xbox Community, and Microsoft Store with the added flexibility to add or remove rows for a customized experience.”

Storage

When running out of space, and you have an external hard drive connected to your console, with the February update, you’ll now see a “Move” option to move or remove items to free up space.

Games and apps

As part of the games and apps experience, version 2002 will offer additional ways to keep everything organized. This is possible with tweaks that makes content grouping easier to navigate, therefore making it easier to access your games and apps. Also, the settings have been updated “to simplify how you interact with your gaming collection.”

Xbox Game Pass

If you have an Xbox Game Pass, after installing this update, you’ll be able to control which games to install that come with bundles available with the subscription.

Conversations

Starting with this release, on Xbox One, you can now view images and animated GIFs in messaging conversations, with the ability to also view content in Message Requests.

Notifications

It’s now possible to decide where notifications should appear on the screen from the Notifications settings page and clicking the “Default notification position” option to select one of the six available locations.

Mixer

The Xbox One February 2020 update also ships with improvements for Mixer. In this update, you can now switch the chat mode to ‘classic chat,’ which displays chat messages in their own dedicated space. It’s now possible to select the video resolution you like to watch content. And, you can now see more details about streamers, browse their VODs and Clips to watch, and host their channel on your own.

The update was first available in the to members of the Xbox Insider Program, but now, it available for everyone. It’ll eventually download and install automatically, but if you can’t wait, you can check for updates manually in the console’s settings.
