Windows Threshold’s first technical preview release is due September 30th; we knew that certain top Microsoft partners already had access to the early bits. And today, it seems that those early bits for the next version of Windows, which still may or may not be called “Windows 10”, have already leaked into the web.
ComputerBase.de has published several screenshots of what it claims is from the build 9834 of Windows 10. According to the leak screenshots, Microsoft labels the operating system “Windows Technical Preview.”
The screenshots also show a desktop that includes some new flat design to match the Metro-style design in the Start screen.
In the Windows Technical Preview build 9834, the charms seem to be fully integrated into the app title bar by clicking the button on the left.
Apps also show a borderless design, a new app switcher, the new virtual desktops, and, of course, the Smart menu returns to the bottom left corner of the screen.

Microsoft is expected to release a Threshold technical preview on September 30th during a special event. Two weeks ago, Microsoft China accidentally published a post hinting that the company will indeed name its next operating system “Windows 10”, but there is still no official word.

Although leaks some times are hard to tell if they are fake or real, these leak screenshots show some of the UI changes coming to the beta preview of Threshold look very real. However, I’ll keep digging to find out their authenticity.
Update: The screenshots, indeed, are real, and they are from the build Microsoft is distributing to partners (build 9834.0.140908-0936.FBL_PARTNER_EEAP).
