What’s new in Windows 11 build 27928

In this flight, the software giant is porting many different features from the Control Panel to the Settings app.

For example, on Settings > Time & language > Date & time, this flight brings the following changes from Control Panel:

  • Option to add additional clocks from the “Show time and date in the system tray” setting.
  • Setting to change the time server under the “Additional settings” section.
  • An option to access the date and time formatting is now available through the “Date & time” page, rather than from “Language & region.” The page also includes the option to change the AM and PM symbols.

  • Option to change number and currency format under the “Regional format” section.
  • Option to enable Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support under the “Language” section.
  • Option to copy current user language and region settings to the welcome screen and system account, and new user accounts under the “Additional settings” section.

Other fixes and known issues

Alongside the changes from the Settings app, the company is also pushing several fixes, including.

  • Click to Do: Fixed crashes with text and image actions.
  • File Explorer: Addressed preview window misbehavior and unblock option inconsistencies in file Properties.
  • Taskbar: Fixed an issue where dragging across Taskbar thumbnails could disable click functionality.
  • Input: Resolved crashes linked to textinputframework.dll and fixed IME input errors after using “CTRL + C.”
  • Lock Screen: Improved reliability during login and wake transitions, addressing blank screens and slow Taskbar rendering.
  • Live Captions: Fixed caption opacity settings not applying correctly under Accessibility > Caption Style.
  • Settings: Resolved a crash when adding a security key via Account > Sign-in options.
  • Other: Fixed multiple error pop-ups when launching Group Policy Editor and issues with dao360.dll in the previous builds.

Microsoft also notes some known issues with this flight. For example, the Temporary files settings may get stuck scanning, and elevating Command Prompt may open the Windows Console Host. You may experience an increase in DWM crashes, and there’s a problem with the File Explorer dark mode when using the red color for a low-space drive.
