  • Microsoft released Windows 11 build 26220.7670 (KB5074169) to the Dev Channel as a quality update for version 25H2.
  • No new features are included, as the release focuses on stability, bug fixes, and reliability improvements.
  • This preview build in the Beta Channel includes the same changes as those in the Dev Channel.

Microsoft has made Windows 11 build 26220.7670 (KB5074169) for version 25H2 available in the Beta Channel of the Windows Insider Program with the same fixes and changes as Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.7674 (KB5074170) in the Dev Channel.

The company notes that the “Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (26220.7670)” rolls out fixes for File Explorer, Start menu, Search, Settings, Graphics, and more, but there are no new features.

As per usual, this release includes several known issues with the Start menu, File Explorer, the Xbox Full Screen Experience for PCs, the Taskbar, and Click to Do.

Although the Beta Channel includes the same changes as the preview build in the Dev Channel, devices in the Beta Channel will continue to receive improvements through the 26220 series build. However, computers in the Dev Channel are jumping to the 26300 series build in preparation for the next wave of features and changes coming to the operating system.

Over time, we will be making behind-the-scenes platform changes in each build, so they may have different known issues because of those changes, the company notes in the official announcement.

What’s new on Windows 11 KB5074169 for version 25H2

These are the latest changes Microsoft is working on for Windows 11 in the Beta Channel.

  • File Explorer: Fixed an issue where the “Extract All” option failed to appear in the command bar when viewing non‑ZIP archive folders.
  • Start menu: Addressed a problem where clicking “hide this pane” in the mobile device side panel didn’t correctly open the setting to hide it.
  • Search: Corrected an issue where the Search process displayed an icon with an X instead of the magnifying glass.
  • Settings: Implemented underlying improvements to reduce cases where the Settings Home page loaded very slowly.
  • Graphics: Addressed a bug causing secondary monitors to render incorrectly and show black screens after recent updates.
  • Other: Fixed an underlying issue from the previous flight that could trigger unexpected sign‑in failures in Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365, and fixed a problem causing some users to encounter SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION bug checks after recent flights

The software giant also notes known issues for devices enrolled in this channel, including:

  • Start menu: A new issue is being addressed where, in Categories view, selecting the option to show more apps within a category may fail to respond.
  • File Explorer: Microsoft is also working on a new underlying problem that can cause all open File Explorer windows and tabs to suddenly jump to the Desktop or Home.
  • Xbox Full Screen experience for PC: Some apps may behave unpredictably when using FSE, especially those that rely on fixed window sizes or open additional windows.
  • Taskbar: A fix is in progress for a problem where certain apps fail to appear in the system tray for some Insiders.
  • Click to Do: Work continues on resolving an issue where the Microsoft 365 Copilot prompt box on selected images doesn’t function unless the Microsoft 365 Copilot app is already running.
