Microsoft is now introducing Copilot Checkout, a new feature within the chatbot experience that allows you complete a purchase by letting AI handle your personal and financial information.
The software recently announced its partnership with PayPal on the transaction side of Copilot Checkout, and this is a big deal for Microsoft because it’s using Agentic AI to power the experience, competing with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Instant Checkout and Google’s Agentic Checkout features.
Agentic AI technology that allows AI to complete a series of steps on your behalf, which many now describe as the future of commerce services.
For example, until now, using Copilot meant researching a product and then switching to the merchant’s website to add it to the cart and complete the purchase. With Copilot Checkout, the entire process stays in one place. You research the product, click buy now, and the purchase is completed without even loading the merchant’s website.
According to research data, the journey that users have taken with Copilot has led to 53 percent more purchases within half an hour of interaction with the chatbot compared to users who didn’t use Copilot. Furthermore, the data also suggests that users are 194 percent more likely to make a purchase when using the chatbot.
Copilot Check out is currently available in the United States through the Copilot.com website with PayPal, Stripe, and Shopify as the initial partners. Sellers using PayPal and Shopify have to complete an enrollment process to use the feature, while Shopify merchants can start using Copilot Checkout immediately.
In the future, Microsoft also plans to bring Copilot Checkout to Microsoft Edge, Bing, MSN, and more.
Furthermore, the company is introducing Brand Agents, a new AI agent solution for companies with an online presence. The agent can handle customers throughout their shopping journey on the website, providing relevant information about the product and more, similar to the chat boxes we are now used to seeing on many websites (which, unfortunately, are not very useful).
