This article details the steps to how to disable Facebook Timeline.

As you’ve heard new Facebook changes are coming and one of them is called Timeline. I already put together a how to enable Facebook Timeline all explained step-by-step, but there is also a chance that after trying it, you didn’t like it, one of the reason could be because you realize that your new Facebook Timeline page will only be visible to developer and not to anyone else, unless you give them the specific address, so they can view it from another computer (e.g., http://www.facebook.com/USERNAME?sk=timeline), or whatever is the reason, if there is a switch to turn on something, there should always be a way to turn that switch off. And this is what this article is about.

Follow these steps to disable Facebook Timeline

Read me: Facebook does NOT allow users revert back to the old profile style and eventually every user is going to get upgraded to Timeline. The step below worked in the past if you created an app to enable Facebook Timeline, otherwise you won’t see the Edit App button. Alternatively you can use a trick to get around Timeline — Check it out.

1  Head over the Facebook developer web page, log in and click on Edit App.

2  On the left side of the screen, click Delete App.

3  In the dialog box, click Confirm and the just click Okay.

Done! You just learned how to remove/disable Facebook Timeline from your profile.

As you see the process wasn’t difficult at all. Now, if you change your mind, you can always get it back by going through the previous step-by-step tutorial.

Dec. 15, 2011 update

Sadly now that Facebook Timeline is available worldwide, the company is not letting users to roll back to the old profile style. Once you’ve been upgraded to Timeline, there is not a way back. 

This How-To guide that you may be reading today worked in the past, because the new designed was in its beta stages, so it is unlikely that is going to work now that it is available to everyone.

You can always learn how to get started with Timeline, you may find out that it is not as bad as you think.

      Of course that on time when this feature comes out, there is going to be a cleaner way to deal with this problem, for now this worked out for me and many other people.

    I deleted it, but timeline is still working. How long does it usually take to disable?

      I shouldn’t take too long, but remember that this is just one way to disable it, the feature hasn’t come out yet and the company haven’t officially said if users will be able to opt-out.

    I use this then deleted the app. now, it turned to app again all by itself. now i don’t know how to put the old facebook back. :(

      Joangelaofficial I can understand your frustration and I thank you for leaving your feedback but apparently once it is official and Facebook Timeline is enabled, there is not way to remove or disable it. Before this guide worked because Timeline was in the BETA stages and now it is in its prime time.

        OH NO!! So were stuck with it!! AHHH lol Oh well, guess I will get used to it :-/ it takes too long to lad is why I dont like it , its like loading your ENTIRE Facebook history! I have been on FB since 07 so I have quite a bit of history…. It is kinda neat taking a stroll down memory lane though… AND the grouping of comments is kinda cool too… O well.. thanks …

            I just tried running MSIE version 7 (yes, this pc is SO old) and facebook opens with my old original profile layout – try MSIE 7 folks and your luck’s gonna be in. Don’t know if it works on MSIE8, but no harm in trying, eh? =o))

      The problem is that Facebook is now making impossible to disable Timeline, before it worked because it was in beta. If there is a way to disable/remove Facebook Timeline in the future I will publish it ASAP!

      ya my timeline is still working :( the sad thing is , timeline is fucking up so bad , really ! like 3 days now , i cant see my recent statuses and i cant see comments and stuffs , oh I HATE IT !

    I thought something was weird! I actually had it disabled and it was for a few days then all of a sudden about a week ago it went back to timeline just out of the blue! I guess this explains why :-/ Oh well …

      Angel thanks for your comment, and yeah it is sad that Facebook is not giving users the change to opt-in or out for Timeline. But not all is lost, if users start complaining about the feature the company might change its mind.

      Cool tip xieg, but the problem is that some time in the near future, Facebook is going to upgrade your profile anyways. It is just the matter of time until the current profile designed disappears.

    Facebook is getting so annoying.  This is something I willingly signed up for.  How dumb am I?  It seemed like fun at first.

      I know your frustration, but don’t beat yourself up because eventually Facebook is going to upgrade everyone and so far there is not a way around it unless, of course, you switch social networks.

    It also happend to me i have deleted the app i have made.. But timeline is not disable.. Please i don’t like it .. it’s bulls**t

      So far Facebook is not letting people roll back to the old profile, once you have it, you have it. Also it is likely that the company is going to upgrade everyone in a near future. So this means that if any of us is lucky enough to figure out a way to disable Timeline, I wouldn’t matter because, like I said, eventually everyone is going to be switched over.

      On dec 22 ,every profiles will be a timeline whether you like it or not.Cause that is the newest look of facebook.

    months ago i enabled timeline and because i didn’t like it i did what you say. edit app and delete, and then timeline was disabled. but now it came back again. IF someone uses firefox, download user agent switcher for firefox. (go tools-> default user agent-> and you pick ie 6,7 or 8. then timeline is disabled. i did this and it worked.)  but does someone know what can i do about google chrome?

    I don’t like it because my page keeps jumping back up to the top when I scroll down to read..it won’t stay in place for me to read anything..it never did this with the old page.

      Facebook’s plans is to enable Timeline on everyone’s profile. So it is just a matter of time until you get it too.

    I have a lot of Apps but then when I go to that page it says “No Apps Found”..
    This is not helping me.. can you do something about it?

      Hello Karey, just so you know Facebook Timeline is the way that the company wants to go, so if you switch to the new profile that’s the way it will stay. There is not a way back other than trying a temporary trick — check the link in this article.

      Mayre, you won’t see the Edit App button if you didn’t register an app to get Timeline in the first place.
      Facebook doesn’t allow to disable Timeline.

      You cannot because it seems that you didn’t enable Timeline through the developer settings. But anyways it doesn’t matter anymore, because that is Facebook future and there is not way to disable Timeline now.
