Windows 8.1 officially became RTM on August 27th, now it appears that the English version of the operating system has leaked onto the web. Just to be absolutely clear, what it seems we have here is the Chinese build we’ve seen recently, but apparently has been repacked with a new language.
Already know that the previous leak of Windows 8.1 build 9600 includes everything we’ve seen in previous leaks and from the preview. We can only expect that this English repack has all the same features.
If you feel adventurous you can go ahead install the new English version of Windows 8.1, I don’t link to the download site to respect intellectual property. Everyone else will have to wait until October 18th, which is the general availability day. Microsoft is even limiting the final bits from TechNet and MSDN subscribers and this news caused a little bit of anger among developers, who depend on early releases to test their apps, so now devs may have to think creatively to continue with their development, even though Microsoft has published new guidelines to test apps with the latest update.
Keep checking back for more update and the leak of the untouched version of Windows 8.1, which should happen soon.
Update: There are people having problems with the installation, so if thinking on giving this a try do it on a virtual machine and pay attention on every step.
Update: Here are some proof from MDL of someone successfully installing Windows 8.1 Pro build 9600. Also for those experiencing issues with the install.wim extraction, the fix seems to be using the latest wadk, imagex, or dism.
