Microsoft is updating the installation process in Windows 10, which also includes a new out-of-box experience (OOBE). Previously we’ve seen a mockup of how the new user interface looks like, but today we have a video showcasing the installation of a new version of Windows 10 Technical Preview with the new design.
The video published in YouTube shows the entire installation of the operating system, from first boot using an installation media to sign in to the desktop.
During the new Windows 10 installation process, you see the new interface with a black background. At the top of the screen, you can read the name of the operating system you are installing, and a big ring acting as the progress bar, and inside the ring users can actually see the percentage of the progress that has been completed.
Then the users get into the new out-of-box experience. Now the language, keyboard layout, and country has moved into the OOBE. Interesting enough, Microsoft is adding the setting to change the Time Zone into the new experience, something that users needed to do after the installation.
The new OOBE process includes a page for “Who owns this PC?” to identify if the computer is for home or company. The next step is to sign in with your Microsoft account, if you don’t have an account, you can create one or use the local account option. Then you get to the page to sync with OneDrive, turn on Cortana, and finally Windows 10 will finalize the installation like in Windows 8.
All this information comes from Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10036 that recently leaked onto the web, which means that it’s likely that the next build of the operating system may include some of these changes.
