Surface Book 3, Go 3, Duo 2, Pro 8 picked up new firmware update

Microsoft updates many of its Surface devices, and here's what you need to know.

During April and May, various Surface devices picked up updates to address vulnerabilities and improve system stability, including the Surface Book 3, Surface Duo 2, Surface Laptop Studio, Surface Pro 8, and Surface Go 3.

Since these updates have been available for some time, this is only a roundup of changes already available on these Surfaces.

Surface Update history

These are the improvements, fixes, and new features available for Surface devices.

Surface Book 3

The update for Surface Book 3 was originally released on May 24.

According to the company, the update available on April 27, 2022, addresses the scenario listed in the February 2, 2022 release notes where some customers were unable to boot to Windows after installing the February update. This update re-releases the firmware and driver updates originally made available in February.

  • Firmware – 13.101.140.0: Surface UEFI – Firmware
  • Firmware – 13.0.1889.2: Surface ME – Firmware
  • Intel – System – 2120.100.0.1085: Intel(R) Management Engine Interface – System Devices

Surface Laptop Studio

The update for Surface Laptop Studio was originally released on May 25.

  • Improves system graphics stability and enables Dynamic Refresh rate for Windows 11.
  • Improves touch experience.
  • Improves performance and stability of Surface Dock and Pen.

Surface Pro 8

The update for Surface Pro 8 was originally released on May 24.

  • Addresses critical security vulnerabilities and improves system stability.
  • Improves Surface Slim Pen 2 inking.

Surface Go 3

The update for Surface Pro 8 was originally released on April 25, and it addresses critical security vulnerabilities and improves system stability.

  • Firmware – 9.103.143.0: Surface UEFI.
  • Firmware – 11.8.90.3987: Surface ME.
  • Intel – System – 2120.100.0.1085: Intel Management Engine Interface.
  • Firmware – 22.1.4.40: Surface Mobile Broadband Update Device.
  • Firmware – 4.26.128.0: Surface EC.

Surface Duo 2

The update for Surface Duo 2 was originally released on May 18.

  • Addresses scenarios outlined in the Android Security Bulletin—May 2022.

Surface Duo

The update for Surface Duo was originally released on May 10.

  • Addresses scenarios outlined in the Android Security Bulletin—May 2022.
  • Improves device stability.
  • Improves in-app camera experience in dual-screen modes for applications with dynamic orientation requirements.

The update should download and install automatically, but if you have not received it, you get it from Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and try to force the download manually.

Also, the update will install automatically on Surface Duo, but you can install it manually from the Android update settings page.
